The main drawbacks of plywood are lower water resistance compared to cement boards and a degree of elastic deflection.
Reducing Floor Deflection: For mezzanines used for living or heavy storage, it is recommended to:
- Use thicker steel framing (joist spacing around 40 cm × 40 cm).
- Select plywood with a minimum thickness of 18mm.
For higher performance, installing two staggered plywood layers can completely eliminate vibration when walking.
Moisture Protection: In bathrooms or cooking areas, all cut edges and panel joints must be sealed with silicone or waterproof sealant to prevent moisture penetration and mold formation.
